Numbers are tricky when it comes to blogging. Of course you want to be aware of how many visitors your site has, but there’s a fine line between keeping tabs on them and becoming obsessed. So how does one monitor their stats, without getting hung up on the numbers?
I’m sure there are plenty of ways out there, but the method I’ve been using for over a year has been amazing. It allows me to track my progress without getting lost in the numbers game. In fact, I only check my numbers 12 times a year. No more, no less.
So how do I do it? Simple. I use a Google Drive spreadsheet. The first of every month I check each of the areas that I’m tracking:
- Total page loads for the previous month
- Average page loads for the previous month
- Twitter followers
- Instgram followers
- Pinterest followers
- Facebook likes
- etc
As I check each of the above stats, I input the data into the spreadsheet. That’s it. I can quickly compare it to the previous month and move on. At the beginning of a new year, I compare my stats to that of a year ago. It makes it fun to look back and see how much my site has grown.
Want to keep your own stats spreadsheet? Click here to download a copy of mine and get started! It’s only April 2nd so you could definitely start yours right away!
I use stat counter and it does all that for my blog anyway :)
This is so simple and genius–definitely starting this!
I absolutely love this. I have definitely been looking for an easier way to kind of maintain/track my sites analytics. I really love the idea of using a spreadsheet. I’ve always wanted to use one buy I never really knew where to start! I really love yours! It definitely gives me room to add some charts and graphs! Love this.
I loooove Google Drive and using the spreadsheets for blogging, especially because they are easy to share with my co-blogger, and even make comments on, etc! We use one for a blog editorial calendar, tracking expenses, tracking review books and more. Definitely adding this one to our collection. Thanks!
Thanks for sharing! This is super helpful!
This is a great idea. I have been tracking my social media like this on a weekly basis to see how effective things have been. I like the idea of having a more simple place to go to for stats. I’ll be sure to add them to my social media sheet. Thanks!
thanks for this Alyssa! Sometimes I get too obsessed with my stats, now my obsessions will be more organized, lol. Have a great weekend!
That is a great way to keep track of stats without becoming obsessed. Thank you! I’m glad I found your blog :)
That’s the exact thing I do! Awesome idea indeed (helps to keep you on track of your blog and social media accounts) – thanks for the template, since I usually use Evernote.
