Awhile ago I wrote a post called WordPress vs Squarespace: Which is the Best Choice For You? And while I’m all for choosing the best website platform that works for you, I think WordPress is far superior than any other platform out there.
There, I said it. Yes, I’m a WordPress snob.
Now I know that WordPress might not seem like the best fit for everyone, but I think it really can be. It’s incredibly flexible and offers tons of functionality, which allows it to be used for just about anything by anyone.
Let’s take a look at why WordPress is the best website platform.
WordPress offers tons of functionality and flexibility
When it comes to growing your business, who knows where you’ll be in a month, let alone a year. So when choosing a website platform, do you really want to box yourself in from the beginning?
Sure some of the simpler website platforms might seem like the perfect fit in the beginning (and they likely are), but what happens down the road when business is booming and you have all these grand plans for your website? Can your website platform handle all of those plans?
Maybe. Maybe not.
You might luck out and not hit any roadblocks. Awesome.
But what if you do?
Guess you’ll be switching website platforms. Do you know how difficult that can be? Some platforms don’t play nicely with each other so you may lose content. Or you might be stuck manually entering two years worth of content into your new platform. Not fun.
Getting yourself setup on a platform that can grow with you will only save you tons of time, money, and energy.Using a website platform that can grow with you will save you time, money, and energyClick To Tweet
WordPress allows your website that flexibility to grow as your business does.
You can start off with a simple 5 page website and eventually build it into a product shop or a membership site. There’s so much WordPress can do, the sky’s the limit.
I don’t know about you, but when it comes to my business, I want to make things as easy as possible when it comes to room to grow. WordPress allows me to do that.
WordPress is easy to use
Because WordPress has almost limitless functionality, it can get quite overwhelming and complicated. It’s not built in a way that allows you to easily drag and drop blocks, so it’s easy to quickly dismiss it as hard to use.
And yes, that can be true.
But, thanks to WordPress’ flexibility, you can create a website just as easily as you can on Squarespace.
Plugins and themes!
There are so many great tools out there that allow you to manage your site quickly and easily. My personal favorite? Beaver Builder.
Beaver Builder is a page builder plugin that comes highly recommended from designers and developers (myself included). It gives you the drag and drop interface you love, while not messing up your site should you decide to stop using it (I’m looking at you, Divi).
I’ve started using it on all my client’s sites as a way for them to easily build complex sales pages without dealing with code. And I even use it on my own site because while I could code custom pages, I don’t have time for that. Work smarter, not harder, right?
Aside from Beaver Builder, there are tons of other options out there, so you’re bound to find the perfect solution for your needs.
WordPress is easy to move
Where is your site hosted right now? Do you think you’ll be there a year from now? Five years from now?
The thing is, hosts go downhill. You may have been happy with their service in the beginning, but you’re not anymore. Or maybe you’ve outgrown what they offer.
The thing is, you’ll likely have to move hosts at one point or another. And if you’re using Squarespace, Wix, or Weebly, you’re kind of stuck with them. You can’t take their platform and use it somewhere else. So if you want a speedier site or more resources for your ever-expanding shop, you’re stuck unless you make the switch to WordPress.
WordPress on the other hand is a breeze to move. You can take your WordPress site from GoDaddy and move it over to SiteGround and you won’t even notice a difference (well, aside from the fact that your site will be much faster… seriously do this). Your site will remain exactly as it.
This also comes in handy if your site is ever suspended. You can take your site with you and go elsewhere. Think you can do that with Squarespace? Think again.
WordPress is open source
You know how two brains are better than one? Well because WordPress is open source, it has a ton of people constantly working on it to make it better.
What’s open source? Open source just means that anyone can look at the code that makes WordPress, WordPress. The source code isn’t some top secret thing only a select few people get access to.
Instead, WordPress is built using the power of hundreds of the best minds. And these people aren’t working on improving WordPress because it’s their job. No, many of the people are doing this because it’s their passion. They love code and fixing things.
It’s also the reason why WordPress is so flexible. Because people can see the code, plugins and themes can be created for just about anything. That’s why the plugin directory has over 50,000 plugins available for download. And that’s not even including premium plugins or plugins not submitted to the directory.
With all that being said, it’s easy to see why WordPress is the best platform for your website. It’s why I only work with WordPress and why I recommend all small business owners build their sites on it. I’ve seen so many instances where people start out on a simpler platform because it’s all they need in the beginning, only to have to switch over the WordPress in the long run. So do yourself a favor and go with WordPress from the beginning.
